Best Travel Series of the Year, 2008. Hooper, Brad (author). FEATURE. First published September 15, 2008 (Booklist). We select the Little Black Travel Books as our travel guide series of the year. The main reasons for designating these guides as best of the year are their portability and user friendliness....each volume has a neat, tidy, and nicely detailed foldout map to the particular area under discussion. The chapters in each volume correspond to the geographical areas into which the authors divide the city for the tourist. Each chapter gives basics on places to see, available art, and entertainment venues, places to eat and drink, where to shop, and where to stay. You can study a range of guides before your actual trip, but this is definitely a commendable candidate for carrying with you on site. --Booklist (American Library Association)
The Little Black Book of San Francisco 2013 Edition eBook Marlene Goldman Kerren Barbas Steckler
The LBB of SF is a nice and minimalist guide. It's very well organized and with sufficient information for the reader to start exploring the city by him(her)self. Literally, it's a guide, it's not encyclopedic like other more comprehensive but cumbersome guides, and by the same token, it's handy and small. It contains the basic and important information in a very colorful layout, unlike other boring guides.I've seen that many travellers or tourists take their guides as a compendium of biblical commands, somehow influenced by the imposing style of the author. This is not the case in a large extent of the book. But still, there are some remaninings of it, and this is why I don't give it five stars.
At the end, the best way to know a city is walking and walking, regardless of any guide.

The Little Black Book of San Francisco 2013 Edition eBook Marlene Goldman Kerren Barbas Steckler Reviews
Perfect small tourguide with all the important information about San Fransico. Pocket size, easy to use. Easy and pleasant to read!
Given my attempt to use this book remotely as a visual guide to San Francisco, things went terribly. This is a work of prose--great prose--accompanied by various maps to identify landmarks. As a travel companion for someone who was using the book while actually in San Francisco, it would serve as the perfect companion. This is an up-to-date and detailed commentary on the city of San Francisco. It's also occasionally funny, and contains a bit of obvious 'locals only' wisdom.
Literally a waste of money. The information is superficial, the maps so small that you may need a magnifying glass for detail, and it's surprisingly heavy even for a hard cover book. Clumsy to carry around in a pocketbook. There are several brochures, great maps and pamphlets at kiosks and hotels that have lots of information about sites of interest, helpful ads, and discount offers. And it's all free! I left the Little Black Book in my hotel room, and used all the free information and did just fine.
I like the pocket size. There are many maps and area highlights! We are even staying at one of the featured hotels when we visit in a few weeks.
The book was fine but not detailed enough for someone going to San Francisco for the first time. Found it difficult to use on its own, I ended up using my phone internet to fill in the gaps
Bought this as a gift for a family member that was moving to San Francisco. It was a perfect book to introduce him to the area.
We took this with us to Frisco and it was extremely helpful. I recommend for anyone that is traveling. Food, tours, transportation, and sight seeing advice is listed. I believe this company makes guides for other cities as well.
