Two kingdoms in perpetual conflict... A magical artifact with untold power...
Two decades ago, the mage Delminor brought together the shards of the Red Jade in an effort to bring peace to two kingdoms that were ever at war. Instead, his dying efforts decimated both armies and scattered the shards across the lands.
Now Dariak, a Hathren mage, seeks the scattered shards of the Red Jade, attempting to unify them with less disastrous results. To begin his quest, he ventures into enemy territory and encounters danger at every turn.
Dariak enlists the help of others on his quest, but they have their own goals and their journeys in Kallisor are no easy task.
Facing feral creatures, mercenaries, and the king himself, it’s all Dariak can do to seek the jades without repeating the colossal failures of past mages.

If you were ever the type of kid who got lost in a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book, or couldn't wait for the next release of a Dragonlance series book, or loved devising new plot twists as the Dungeon Master for a game of Dungeons and Dragons with your friends, then this book is for you. With easy to follow action, which is paced just right, and characters you yearn to learn more about--but learn to like very quickly--it's a fun read from the first word to the last period. The premise of the book is set with an initial journey, much like most Sci-Fi and Fantasy genre tomes, but the story takes enough turns to keep the reader compelled to keep reading to see what happens next. The use of physical elemental interactions helps solidify the magical elements/science that are part of the core quest for one of the main characters, which means it's very cleverly written and definitely well thought out. I get a sense of "JK Rowling" level of planning in this book, and the subsequent ones to follow will surely be just as well crafted. I am looking forward to reading the next installments, and as they are an easy read, I'm sure I will be re-reading the series a lot over the years just as I've done with the Rowling books (but this series will most likely have less angst-filled moments, so much more re-readable). Basically, an enjoyable book that's good read at any time. Highly recommended for the young adult reader as well as the story will hold their interest, as will the characters, and the writing is better than most of the current offerings for that age group.Product details

Red Jade Book 1 Journeys In Kallisor Volume 1 Stephen J Wolf 9781514126363 Books Reviews
The first book in the Red Jade series tells the gripping tale of a young farmhand turned valiant warrior, a sly and clever magi turned loyal friend, and an unlikely thief turned trusted companion as their lives become interwoven in ways they could never have imagined. Each character develops individually throughout the book with the help of their new-found friends. With the experiences and challenges they face on their journey they grow closer, even as they realize the harsh differences between them. Despite the story beginning with them fighting each other, by the end of the book they are fighting side by side, vigorously defending each other and sacrificing themselves to save their new friends... but I won't give any more away.
This book had me hooked from the very beginning. While the names of the places and the people seemed confusing at first, they became as familiar to me as my own town and family as I continued to read. A loose comparison for Journeys in Kallisor would be a combination of The Hunger Games and Harry Potter. The author incorporates magic and physical strength, as well as emotional perseverance and the elements of the earth to tell an amazing story. He uses each character's strengths to the advantage of the group and uses their weaknesses to show how they each learn and grow. The author does an incredible job of illustrating the power of friendship as well as the power of love. I would recommend this book to any age group and I cannot wait for the journey to continue in the next book!
Journeys in Kallisor is the first book in the Red Jade series. Let me just start by saying that if you’re a fan of classic role-playing games, this book and your imagination will provide hours of entertainment to combat the forces of boredom in a mundane world. The story follows a classic quest line, characters searching for shards of a magical item of great power. There is battle, magic, some humor, and fantastical creatures that made me have Final Fantasy flashbacks. The book is a typical length for an epic fantasy book, weighing in at just under 450 print pages.
There were a few things that kept me from enjoying the book more than I did. Probably the biggest thing was the point of view (POV) from which it was written. The story uses the difficult-to-use-well omniscient POV and the head jumping occurs so rapidly at times that it becomes confusing. Even worse, it jolted me out of my immersion in the story and made me realize I was reading, not experiencing the story through the characters themselves. There were some troublesome inconsistencies in the characters’ personalities and in some of the situations that occurred in the story as well. Overall, if you are looking for an entertaining read that brings you back to classic fantasy, and more specifically RPG gaming, tropes, check out Journeys in Kallisor.
A great read at any age!!!
I enjoyed please advise when volum 2 comes out! ed lee
While I'm not typically an RBG fan, I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. From the beginning there is a lot of action, and immediately, you're drawn into a story. As you progress through, there are twists and turns, and, an unexpected character development. Each chapter leaves you wanting more, and by the end, you're yearning for the second book. This was a great read, and I look forward to reading the second one!
I loved Journey's In Kallisor! I especially enjoyed how the magic used in the story didn't just happen but was developed through the elements. This gave the story so much more substance and credibility. The author succeeded in creating diverse characters that are easy to root for. I highly recommend this book.
I found the title and artwork on the cover intriguing, so I purchased the book and wasn't sorry! The story is action-packed; leading the reader through adventures throughout the story. I liked the way the author weaves in friendship, loyalty, and romance. The imagery reminded me of medieval times with the sword play, castles, and even escapes on rooftops. The main characters' traits evolve as the story progresses, and, not to spoil the story, but I found the Mage to be the most interesting of them, with his quest unfolding as he tells it bit by bit during the action and afterwards as he reflects and then during the planning for the next adventure. Since this is Book 1, I can't wait for Book 2!
